I had a perhaps not so unique curiosity the other day, wondering whether today's acceptance of AI "hallucinations" and flat out incorrect information has been enabled by the current state of social media, traditional media, and a "post-truth" world - i.e. "why do I care if the AI is lying to me, politicians and experts lie to me all the time!"

In another timeline, would we all be looking at LLM output and think "my god, this robot is absolute trash, get it out of my life" instead of whatever fever dream we're living in now?
